Characteristics of a Good Church

There are different types of churches. Some of them are in good health while others are downright toxic and gravely ill. A good church should be eager to serve all people. It should lead people to the crown of glory.  The following are the distinguishing characteristics that every healthy church must have.

Biblical Discipleship

The Bible

The gospel of Matthew (Matt 28:16-20) advises people to be good disciples; baptize and teach them to become obedient. It is through baptism that Christians declare their allegiance to Christ. The local church should teach Christians how to obey Christ’s commands. Ideally, a good church should have a good of people who are following Biblical teachings.

Biblical Evangelism

A church is an assembly of people of believers. Its followers should faithfully proclaim Christ who was crucified to save them. The church should be a good mouthpiece of Christ. It should convince its followers to repent their sins to have everlasting life. The people gathered by the church should hear the call of being good disciples.

Biblical Leadership

Leadership is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Leaders should be shepherds and not tyrants. This is a quality that helps them in equipping the saints for the ministry’s work and building up Christ’s body. Church leaders and its members are called and gifted to serve as great leaders. They should be capable of equipping the other members with what is needed to become more close to Christ. Being an elder or a pastor is sometimes challenging. The church can experience good health with good leadership.

Biblical Giving

A healthy church should be financially self-sustaining. Making generous giving is one of the corporate practices which are described in 1 Cor 16:1-4. However, this practice should not be confined to your finances. They should aim at changing the lives of other people by preaching the gospel of Christ.

Biblical Mission

The congregation should be actively engaged for it to make new disciples both globally and locally. All members should be disciple makers in the world. A healthy congregation is administered and well-organized to make sure that its members are trained, motivated and equipped to make new disciples.

 

Biblical Accountability

Followers can spur people to be obedience. Accountability is a trait that helps people in calling back from sin. A healthy church should provide an environment of enlightening people who are disobedient. This should be done consistently.…
